Mechanic Repairing Motorcycle

About Me

Hi, I'm Khang, the person behind this whole thing. Ever since I was a wee boy, I have had an itch of wanting to know how things work. When I was old enough to get my hands on a screw drivers, I found a new way to play with all the old and broken toys...by opening them all up to see what was inside and to see if I can put them back together. That curiosity about how things work eventually lead me to mechanical engineering, which is still my day to day job.

It wasn't until I was finishing high school that I started working on cars. My mom had a Chevy Equinox at that time, and I was shocked by how much the dealership charged her to get the brakes replaced. A few hours on Youtube later and I was determined not to let that happened again. I realized that parts are relatively cheap and easy to get, it's the mechanic labors that are expensive, and sometimes for good reasons. However, if I can teach myself to do basic maintenance, I can help mom save some money, and pocket some of the difference for myself, win-win!

So what started as huge oil spill in the garage turned into being the family and friends' translator for all things mechanical. I was playing the role of family's mechanic for a while, until a motorcycle accident happened that temporarily took away any use of my left hand. During the time when I was unable, I shifted into showing and instructing family and friends how to do the repairs and maintenance. That sparked the idea for Shadetree Consulting Services. I'm not just another mechanic, I want to create a safety net for someone wanting to learn more mechanical skills and inspire the next generations of motor heads.

I can help with

Basic vehicle maintenance

Fluid changes are only one mistake away from being a super easy job to becoming a time huge clean up. Whether it's engine oil or gear oil, let me help you avoid the mess.

DIY jobs that seem scary

Brakes and suspensions are scary if you've never done them before. It's even more important to have them done right for your safety on the road. Invest a couple hours into learning how to swap out your brakes and always know whether or not you are still safe on the road.

Return the showroom shine to your vehicle

The learning curve to do a proper detailing job is not easy, especially with all the products, tools and chemical out there. However, the process can be quite enjoyable, and the final result is super satisfying. Once you know how to out the shine back into faded paint, you'll want to do it everything that you have.

Random projects that you think are cool

I'm still an engineer at heart and would love to help bring your ideas to life. Some of things I've dabbled in are audio systems, wiring accessories, 3D printing, and building a race car.
